Zinnia access management

LEAD UX DESIGNER

Challenge

Zinnia faced challenges in managing permissions for operations users. The existing system was cumbersome and outdated, leading to frequent errors and permission conflicts. This inefficiency impacted productivity and increased security risks. I led a team to develop a platform for managing permissions through "roles," each containing specific "capabilities" aligned with common tasks. This approach aimed to streamline the process, reduce errors, and provide clarity in permissions management.

Understanding User Needs

In designing the platform, we focused on several key needs. We added a strong search function to quickly find users in the database. Detailed profiles were made to show each user's permissions clearly. Roles could be added directly from these profiles, making management easier. We listed roles for each carrier to keep things organized and allowed easy role modifications. We also displayed each role's specific tasks. Lastly, we created a master list to see all users with a particular role for quick reference and auditing.

User Testing

We engaged with 2 IAM team members and 7 Ops Managers/Directors, testing 2 versions of Access Management. Through 3 rounds of testing, we gathered valuable insights from each participant. Each round provided new takeaways, refining our approach. Our final version received high praise from both our US and India-based teams, highlighting its effectiveness and usability.

Results and impact: Achieving significant improvements

After presenting our final designs to the head of Product and other stakeholders, the project has moved into development with the MVP expected to be finished within the next month.
